Transforming Lives: New Housing Scheme Launched in Rochdale

In a groundbreaking effort to tackle homelessness, MSV Housing Group, in collaboration with Stepping Stone Projects and Rochdale Borough Council, has launched a new housing scheme dedicated to helping homeless adults transition into stable accommodation. This initiative is not just about providing shelter; it’s about fostering independence and improving lives within the Rochdale community.

A New Beginning in a Converted Space

The new scheme is housed in a thoughtfully converted former office building, now transformed into four newly renovated, energy-efficient one-bedroom apartments. This innovative approach not only provides essential housing but also promotes sustainability through energy-efficient design. Each apartment is designed to offer comfort and functionality, ensuring residents have a welcoming space to call home.

Funding & Support: A Collaborative Effort

This project is made possible through significant funding from the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme (RSAP), with a generous contribution of £120,000 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Homes England. This funding marks a vital expansion of support for homeless individuals in Rochdale, demonstrating a commitment from various levels of government to address this pressing issue.

Support Services Offered 🛠️

Under the arrangement, MSV Housing Group owns the property, while Stepping Stone Projects, in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council, will provide critical support services to residents. Specific services include:

  • Life Skills Training: Workshops on budgeting, cooking, and job readiness to empower residents.
  • Mental Health Support: Access to counseling and mental health resources to address emotional well-being.
  • Employment Assistance: Partnerships with local businesses to facilitate job placements and training opportunities.

Stepping Stone Projects: A Commitment to Independence

Stepping Stone Projects is dedicated to ending homelessness by 2034, focusing on providing quality accommodation and the support needed for individuals to achieve independence and maintain stable housing. Their work is crucial in not just offering shelter, but also in equipping residents with the skills and confidence to thrive in their new environments.

Steps Towards Independence 🌱

Through personalised support services, Stepping Stone Projects plays an integral role in ensuring that residents can access the necessary resources. They focus on:

  • Individualised Case Management: Tailored support plans that address each resident's unique challenges and goals.
  • Community Engagement: Encouraging residents to participate in local events, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
  • Long-term Follow-up: Regular check-ins to ensure residents are adapting well and to provide ongoing support if needed.

The launch of this new housing scheme by MSV Housing Group, Stepping Stone Projects, and Rochdale Borough Council is a beacon of hope for homeless adults in Rochdale. It exemplifies the power of collaboration and community support in addressing social issues. As these four energy-efficient apartments welcome their first residents, we can look forward to seeing the positive impact this initiative will have on the lives of those in need. Together, we can build a brighter future for our community and help individuals find their footing on the path to stability.
