Rochdale Town Hall Offers Relaxed Experience with SEND Sundays

Rochdale Town Hall is opening its doors to families with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with its initiative, SEND Sundays. On April 6th, 2025, the stunning historical building will transform into a relaxed and sensory-friendly environment, allowing families to explore the Town Hall at their own pace.

These special events, held on select Sundays, provide a unique opportunity for children aged 3 and above to experience the Town Hall in a quiet and comfortable setting. Closed to the general public, SEND Sundays will feature dimmed lighting and reduced noise levels, creating a calming atmosphere for those who may find bustling crowds and heightened sensory input overwhelming.

What to Expect at SEND Sundays:

Relaxed Atmosphere: The absence of crowds and reduced sensory stimulation provides a peaceful environment for children to explore.
Regular Activities: Expect engaging and inclusive activities tailored to different needs. Details on specific activities will be announced on Rochdale Town Hall's social media channels, so be sure to follow them for updates.
The Zen Den: A dedicated quiet space, filled with sensory lights and calming toys, provides a retreat for children needing a break or a moment of quiet reflection. The Zen Den is designed as a "quiet place for busy minds".

Rochdale's Commitment to Disabled Children:

This initiative is part of Rochdale's ongoing commitment to supporting disabled children and their families. Under the Children Act 1989, local authorities have a duty to maintain a register of disabled children in their area. This register, known as the disabled children and young person’s register in Rochdale, is a voluntary sign-up that helps the council understand the needs of disabled children and plan appropriate services. While signing up for the register is voluntary, initiatives like SEND Sundays highlight the council's proactive approach to creating inclusive and accessible experiences for all children in the borough.

Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to enjoy Rochdale Town Hall in a relaxed and sensory-friendly environment. Book your tickets for SEND Sunday today!
